Free
Training--National Coalition Academy's 10th Cohort
Starts in December
The Institute's successful year-long National Coalition Academy will launch a 10th cohort in December and spaces remain for the free training. The Academy incorporates three weeks of in-person training, distance learning and a Web-based workstation for coalition products. Thanks to a long-standing partnership with the National Guard Bureau, Academy registration, materials, lodging and meals are free for participating coalitions. The only expense to coalitions is transportation to the training which is held at the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center at Fort Indiantown Gap, Penna. For more information, click here or send an e-mail to training@cadca.org.
New Publication Series Launches
The Institute launched a new topic-specific publication series to complement its popular Primer Series with release of the The Coalition Impact: Environmental Prevention Strategies. The new series will open with a publication focusing on environmental strategies and will include future publications on working with the media and advanced coalition assessment.

With our partner, Community Systems Group, the Institute is piloting two courses coalition evaluation using the improved workstation and Online Documentation System (ODSS). The courses, which include one-on-one technical assistance through CSG, are being tested this spring with coalitions that registered on a first come, first served basis during the Using the Web to Improve Evaluation workshop at CADCA's 2008 National Leadership Forum.
Course 1 will focus on introducing
participants to specific issues related to coalition evaluation. Training
on documentation of effort and analysis of contribution will be provided.
Participants will be given the opportunity to practice documenting coalition
efforts and to explore how they might implement the tools provided in their
own coalition. Finally, participants will be guided through a process of creating
their own documentation plan.
Course 2 will focus specifically on use of the ODSS. Training on data entry, community-level indicator data, report creation, and creating graphs to conduct an analysis of contribution will be provided. Additionally, participants will be provided with specific tips on customizing the ODSS to meet local evaluation needs as well as the needs of multiple funders and other audiences.
