America's Heartland Project

In partnership with the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), the Institute developed this project to provide one year of technical assistance and training to 54 individuals from 18 substance abuse prevention coalitions.

The chosen coalitions were:

  • newly emerging and focused on substance abuse prevention
  • in economically disadvantaged communities
  • serving rural and small/ mid-sized communities
  • often confronting serous problems related to the illegal production of methamphetamine and marijuana cultivation
  • faced a signficiant lack of resources
  • unable to easily access training and technical assistance resources

CSAP and CADCA's National Coalition Institute formulated an agreement and provided the selected coalitions with:

  • Faciliate coalition's attendance at CADCA's Mid-Year Training Institute, July 27-31, 2003
  • Provide individual assistance from the Institute to each coalition team
