CADCA's Mid-Year Training Institute
CADCA's Mid-Year Training Institute offers a choice of eight (8) day-long workshops and a four-day coalition training. Participants may attend up to four workshops over the four days of the conference or may opt for the four-day course.
"Coalition Bootcamp"
As part of the Mid-Year Training Institute,
CADCA's National Coalition Institute also features a four-day training course,
sometimes referred to as the “coalition bootcamp.” The intensive
training addresses key aspects of coalition management. The course is designed
for anti-drug coalition leaders, community leaders, drug prevention personnel,
education professionals or those who want to launch a community anti-drug coalition
in their environment. This training features didactic instruction and small
group exercises. Course topic areas include reviewing the history and evolution
of the coalition movement, the public health model, assessing risk and protective
factors, stages of community readiness and associated strategies and the seven
basic steps to starting a coalition. The course also covers the steps in developing
a coalition strategic plan, building organizational structure, recruiting and
maintaining volunteers, developing a leadership plan and steps to strengthening
and sustaining the coalition infrastructure and resource base.
More information and registration details, as they become available, can be found under Events on the CADCA Web site.

Regional Trainings
In 2005, CADCA’s National Coalition Institute expanded its regional training programs to include two-day courses in Philadelphia, Houston and San Francisco. The workshops, titled Core Competencies That Lead to Successful and Sustainable Coalitions, are designed to show community coalitions that sustainability is about more than money. The trainings teach the skills essential for community members to manage an effective coalition. The training also enhances the capacity of Weed and Seed sites and Drug-Free Community Grantees to plan and develop programming using SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework.
The regional trainings are open to Drug-Free Communities Support Program grantees, Weed and Seed Program grantees and other anti-drug coalitions. There is no charge for the training program or training materials. Participants are responsible for associated costs such as travel, housing, parking, and meals. Information on dates, locations and registration for 2006 regional training opportunities will be posted here as it becomes available.
