About the Institute

Training

The National Coalition Institute offers a wide range of training and technical assistance to help increase the effectiveness of community anti-drug coalitions across America.

2006 Training Schedule

National Coalition Academy

The National Coalition Academy is a year-long training program combining three-weeks of classroom training, distance learning and Web support to help communities start and/or sustain a highly effective anti-drug coalition. Coalitions learn about creating and maintaining partnerships, sustainability, cultural competency, assessment, prevention planning and implementation, and evaluation. The Academy is conducted by CADCA’s National Coalition Institute through a partnership with the National Guard Bureau.

Mid-Year and Regional Trainings

CADCA’s Mid-Year Training Institute focuses on the principles of nonprofit management while incorporating the dynamics of a coalition. The Mid-Year Training Institute offers small work group sessions to allow for in-depth, hands-on training.

In 2005, CADCA’s National Coalition Institute expanded its regional training programs to include two-day courses in Philadelphia, Houston and San Francisco. The workshops are designed to show community coalitions that sustainability is about more than money.

National Youth Leadership Academy

The National Coalition Institute has begun planning for its first National Youth Leadership Academy. Applications are being reviewed and a planning committee of youth from around the U.S. will meet on Feb. 10-12, 2006, in Washington, D.C. (just prior to the start of CADCA's National Leadership Forum). Additional information on the Academy will be posted as it becomes available.

Leader Mentor Program

The Leader Mentor Program has created opportunities for coalition members to learn leadership skills, apply those skills in practical settings and then to pass the skills on others. In its initial phase, the program matched experienced coalition leaders—the Leader Mentors—with two newly-formed, diverse, local anti-drug coalitions from economically-disadvantaged communities. Now, the program’s members are preparing to launch their Project of National Significance (PNS)—an attempt to increase awareness of and participation in community anti-drug coalitions.
